Re: Canton Oil Pan

i have a canton on my 383 and the low oil sensor plug is very close to the hookers, definately put the plug on first. my pan is basically resting on the rack. lots of massage work to get the dipstick and tube to fit properly, and you can feel the stick getting caught on something. i thought it was the trap doors inside the pan though. other then that i would definately buy another pan from them.. it doesnt leak at all.

Yeah I learned you have to plug the connector in first also ......after I alrdy had the stupid header in..I was too lazy to remove it and plug it in so I just
ran a straight wire to "trick" the sensor that its seeing oil...I keep a good watch on my oil level though!

I can unplug and plug the oil level sensor plug by loosening the sensor until the plug is at it's lower point (the plug is not centered in the sensor). At least it can by done with hooker headers, don't know about the jethots.

Re: Canton Oil Pan

I have an old version (2001 year vintage) Canton RR pan on my 396 LT1. I have a PA racing K-member and thought that it had cleared. I just yanked my motor out and saw that my pan was touching/rubbing on the top of the steering rack.

With my Hooker LT's (Jet Hot coated) one of the primaries touched my low oil level sending unit. I plugged the wiring in first (luckily) and wrapped the wiring, the plug, and the sensor in the alluminum looking heat tape (from DEI) and never had an issue. Just removed it all, and nothing was melted or burned.

Now, I did just test fit my new Kooks 1 3/4" stepped into 1 7/8" with 3.5" collector into the above parts.

The Kooks touched my AC Delco PF 44 long/race filter. So I removed that. Then the headers were touching the oil level sending unit (without the plug or wiring) so I removed that and it fit.

So with the larger Kook's it seems that it won't fit with this pan. I'm going to contact Canton to see if they make a "drag race" pan that doesn't need the kickouts, or without the low oil level sending unit.

I'm going to a Big Stuff 3 engine managment system so I won't need the stock pcm, gauges or low oil level sending unit.

But something for you guys that want to keep that stuff to think about.
