Canton Oil Pan

My Canton pan sealed perfectly!!

There are so many posts on how terrible these are, I just thought I would post one about how great mine is. Regular old NAPA pan gasket used and little silicone at the edges.

Pete Jackson gear drive works awesome as well. Sounds even better!!

Pics and sounds clips should be up on the site soon....Bowtie Boyz

Re: Canton Oil Pan

It's not the leaking around the seal that has been the problem from what I understand. The threads that I have seen that talk about them leaking is from poor welds. A buddy of mine has one on his car and it leaks like crazy from the WELDS! Good luck with it though, I hope that it continues to work for you.

You have the 242-T?? If so, I've got no issues w/ the pan either and it fits fairly good..

Re: Canton Oil Pan

That's one of the best part of my engine, about 2 years since the install worked fine with no leaks at all.

I've never had a problem with one on any of the motors I have built. I always check them for leaks too so I guess as long as I keeping doing that I'll still like them.

You can actually hear your gear drive? I could only hear a faint noise at idle with mine, and as soon as I reved it, I couldn't hear it anymore. I was hoping for the loud whine from them, that way everyone would think I had a blower, but as soon as I'd get on it they would hear the turbo's I wish they made a noisy one for the hydraulic roller cam. BTW how much did you end up taking off the face of the cover to get the idler to fit. I ended up taking off a about .075.

Re: Canton Oil Pan

I just ordered my Canton 242-t pain for my 383 stroker. I called them up and asked them about all the issues with the old pans. They admited they had poor welds on the older style pans BUT now they have rectified that issue and no pans leaves the factory without getting leak tested twice, according to their tech dept....I'd say, we can put to rest that they suck, cus they work now

I had to change to the '95 timing cover and took .060 out of it for the idler. Mine are the noisy set, you can definently hear them.

Re: Canton Oil Pan

Hey guys,

Sorry to hijack your thread.

I am looking to order a canton pan for my 396 and was wondering if you were having any clearance problems with you new pans (crank and rods)?
1. Is the oil level sensor problem fixed?
2. Does it come with a windage tray and a crank scraper?
3. I heard that some of the pans were hitting the power steering rack is that the case with the new pans?
4. Do any of you have long tubes and how does it fit with them? ( i have Jet Hot LTs)
5. Where do you get them from and what was the cost?

Thank you if you answer these questions for me.

1. From what I've seen on other canton pans on my friends rides, YES
2. Yes and Yes.
3. Hit or miss. Some have a problem, others don't
4. Three of my friends have hooker LT's and they fit fine. I have Jet hot's too, and since they're pretty much the same design, I don't see why they'd have any issues.

5. The only place I knew of that sold them was SpeedInc. I just checked out their site and from the looks of it, they've all but ABANDONED the LT1 They don't advertise any engine-related performence parts anymore- only the LS1's

I'm building up a 396 myself and picked up the canton oil pan. You can check out some pic's of the pan in my sig. Or click HERE

Hope this helps.

Where did you buy them, I got mine from Jegs, but I didn't see any noisy ones for a hydraulic roller cam. You happen to have a part number?

I don't happen to see it listed in my latest Summit or Jegs magazine either. I purchased it so long ago that I don't have the part no.

My Kooks LTs hit the oil level sensor.
The dipstick and tube had to be massaged to work correctly. It would get stuck between the scraper and the main caps. I used aftermarket 4 bolt main caps though, would be ok with stock two bolt caps.

Re: Canton Oil Pan

you can get them directly from canton. Do a web search for them. They even have a for sale section with discontinued, prototype and blemished pans. I saved 100 bucks on a pan because the gold hue was not in their acceptable color range.

Re: Canton Oil Pan

Have the Canton & LT's. The oil level sensor is in but I can't get the connector to plug into it. Too close.

Yeah plug that puppy in before you put the LT's on Dave!

I talked to Chris Tiso at Canton about this at PRI, called Canton the other day but forgot to talk to him about it..... One day.
