Cant get my engine to start, help

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but since it has to do with my LT1 i thought i would put it in here. Anyways, I am having trouble getting my 96' Z28 started. To keep it short what is happening is that i turn the key and the starter has no problem turning the engine over and has plenty of power from the battery but it wont start up. What is leading me to believe its not getting any feul is that when i push the gas pedal while the engine is being turned by the starter, there is no sign of feul going into the cylander, not a change in sound of engine and the starter isnt evened bogged down the least bit by the feul building up and flooding the engine. I think the feul pump my have gone bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou for your time
-Ben

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on without starting the engine? Try turning the key forward for about 10 seconds, turn it off then turn it forward again for 10 seconds and then try to start it. Usually if the fuel pump is dying this is a way to find out. It's possible you are not getting any spark as well. Have you checked the plugs/wires/coil?

Im sure im getting a spark because there is no way that all 8 of the spark plugs or all 8 of the wires went bad all at one time over night. It would have to be the coil if i were to not get a spark in this situation, but like i said it sounds and seems i am getting a spark. But how could i check to see if the coil wasnt working properly?

Re: Cant get my engine to start, help

do you have a jet programer if so that could be your problem i had the same problem with mine if not.. do you have t-tops or do your windows leak..GM puts the main ground wire underneither the drivers side seat (under carpet) over the years of water getting in there from t-tops or windows the connector gets corroded you could have a bad ground. easy fix replace the connector. or it could be a fuel pump relay i would deffentely check those things out first. if those don't fix the problem then i hope you don't have a full tank of gas

A simple and quick test to see if you are getting spark but no fuel would be to squirt a little starting fluid into the air intake and see if it starts. Helps if you have someone else crank it while you spray. If it starts, you probably have good spark. Then you can go from there.

Re: Cant get my engine to start, help

My windows dont leak and i have no t-tops, also i tried the starting fluid method but a big feul injected V-8 has so many pathways to go through in the intake manifold and the valve it has to go though, i just think when i tried it all it did was get caught up on the walls of the ports and such in the manifold, this isnt like a chainsaw engine, but maybe im wrong ill try that one again more in depth maybe. Thanks for the ideas they are good suggestions. But im still hung up on the feul pump idea. One thing i dont understand is why it would just go bad all of the sudden so quickly over night, and not show any signs that the feul pump is going bad. This is why im thinking it could be a bad wire or a blown fuse even, something simple like that. Is there a fuse for the feul pump? I checked the fuse box under the hood marked "fuse relays" and i didnt see any such fuse. What do you think?

The starting fluid will work just fine. There is a fuse, check your owners manual to find out where.

there is a fuel pump relay under the dash on the ddrivers side. if you have accsess to alldate go on there it'll tell your right we're its at. oh yea does your airpump power up or is that dead to? With your key on engine off is the cheack engine light on? if its not then i'd go for the computer. but check the relay

I checked the fuse for the "feul pump relay" as it is marked, which is also the fuse for the PCM, and it is fine. Where is the feul pump relay under the driverside dash, all i see is a plug-in for the computer.

thanks

There is also an ignition fuse under the hood, I would look at that one also.

Re: Cant get my engine to start, help

Thanks for all the help guys, but unfortunatly its alittle late for any suggestions now. I had my car hauled to a mechanic who is going to fix it for me. I wish i would have had more time to check that relay though. Oh well. Thanks again, these forums kick ***, these people are really helpful.

Thanks,
Ben
