can't get cruise control cable re-installed -- lost part?

HI guys,

I pulled a cruise control unit from the junkyard for my conversion car (94/95 camaro), along with a throttle cable. Both came from the same car. I did not take the throttle body plastic cover though.

Anyways, when I got home to install the throttle cable & cruise cable, I was not able to get the cruise control cable to stay in the slot on the LT1 bracket. I checked shbox's site, and he mentions a "locating pin" -- the closest thing to a locating pin is part of the plastic molded piece, which attaches to the throttle bracket.

Does any one have any good pictures of how the unit looks installed, or if i'm missing a part? It seems like there should be some kind of "thing" to hold both the throttle cable and the cruise cable on the bracket, but i didn't see one at the junkyard... any position i put the cruise cable in now, it is not held onto the bracket safely.

any help would be really appreciated!

You don't need the plastic throttle linkage cover to keep the cable in place. I ran without the cover for several years and had no problems with the cruise control cable. I'd take a picture but I no longer have the cruise control in the car. As I recall the square plastic piece at the end of the cable just pushed into the slot on the side of the bracket that also holds the throttle cable.

The accelerator and cruise cables fit into a common part that slides into the bracket and held in by the little pin when slid in all the way. There is no more to it.

does anyone have a picture of the "common part"? I'm guessing that when i took it off the junked car, it somehow got lost in the removal. All I have right now are the two cables & the black metal bracket...

The pics on my website show it. It is the part holding the cables that slides into the bracket.

Tyler,

Why don't you take some close up pictures of what you have and how you are trying to put it together? It really is as simple as we are telling you(as posted in your first thread on this issue).

As I asked before, are the plastic nubs broke off the cables? That is the part that holds each cable onto the bracket. You slide it in until the plastic nub locks into the machined out spot in the cable bracket. Each of the cables has this plastic nub.

Edit....

Here's the photos of what I have -- maybe my bracket is the problem, as it looks like from the pictures you posted, the slot is narrower. my cruise control end doesn't fit snugly because there is a gap at the top. Check it out:

the nubs on the cable ends are present, as you can see in the photo. Are there different brackets out there?

Look at the difference between Shoebox's photo and yours. The hole in your bracket looks taller:

yep, it sure looks like that is the case. i didn't realize there are different brackets for each year. i wonder what my bracket came from? it was on the motor when i bought it a couple years ago.

that being said, how many different versions of this bracket are out there? is there a part number? do either of you guys have one you might wanna sell :-)

My mistake on the "common part". I guess it has been too long since I looked at it, LOL. It does look like the bracket hole does not match the cable that is trying to be put into it.

man, i wonder what bracket i have on my car then. It looks so similar. It looked like the brackets were all the same from 94 to 97 -- i wonder if i have a 93 bracket somehow?

After looking at some other pics I have, your bracket looks the same as mine. I think the angle in the pic in this thread makes it look different. The part of the throttle cable you are using appears to be smaller-not that the bracket hole is too big.

Hi Shbox,

Here's a pic of the bracket I assume I need -- its the same one that Ace has -- notice the slot is much narrower, and the cruise piece that I have will fit in the slot.

I wonder why there are different brackets? I wonder where information on this exists...

There are two brackets listed in the f-body parts book. One for 93s and one for 94-97s. My bracket is like yours, but my cable end is not like yours.

hmm, its very strange -- that second photo i posted was from a 94-97, and the slot is narrow, like what I need. Very confused!
