Can You Service Opti. W/ New Cap And Rotor??

I was wondering if you can service an optispark with a new cap and rotor kit.
I replace me optispark about 40k ago with an oem and my mechanic says I need new cap and rotor. I see the option on summit and jegs for just the cap and rotor from $99-$149 for the msd one.
I am sure they sell these on there own for a reason right?
Any reccomendations. THanks

its always a crapshoot to just replace the cap and rotor. Just get a OEM optispark.

I replaced cap and rotor from AutoZone and baseplate from O'Reilly's about 2 years ago. just used a little silicone around the o-ring and it's been fine ever since.

If you are going to the work, you might as well replace the whole unit for only a little more $$$. An OEM Opti can be had for around $250 and they are known to suffer from failures of parts other than the rotor and cap so I wouldn't recommend replacing just the rotor and cap, even though it is possible.
