can you replace opti ?
Re: can you replace opti ?
Not easilly. You have several choices for upgrading it though.
Replacement Opti:
-OEM GM
-Summit (available, and the first failure has been posted)
-Accel (just getting into people's hands)
-MSD (not in production yet)
-Dynaspark (about 4 years of history on this one, but never sold well because of high cost)
Remove high voltage section from Opti:
-Delteq (4-coil pack from Northstar engines)
-LTCC (8-coil setup using LSx coils)
-aftermarket ECU capable of accepting Otpi optical sensor signals and driving an external high voltage section)
Do a "search" on any of the above key words and you should find a lot of posts
Total Relacement:
-Electromotive Opti Eliminator/Super Direct Ignition - there were about 20 of these units built... worked OK with batch fire 93's, so-so with sequential fire OBD-I 94-95's, and caused problems with codes on the OBD-II 96-97 LT1's. I had one for a while, but gave up on it and went with an aftermarket ECU, using the Opti pulse signals and an external driver for 8 LS1-style coils in direct fire. Proven faultless over a period of 6 years.
