Can you drain just the radiator to pull the waterpump?

Do you need to drain the coolant from the block in order to pull off the water pump without a mess, or is draining the radiator enough to get the level below the pump? (I'm changing the optipieceofcrapspark.)

I believe you need to drain the block too. I did the opti not long ago and the waterpump is down enough on the block that you'll need to drain it a good bit down.

You don't need to drain the block if you jack the front of the car higher than the rear.

Just drain the radiator, remove the hoses and your good to go.
