Very nice combo!

But it looks to me like your bottom end is not exactly "stock'. And one thing I don't understand: $4,000 in parts and laibor? What am I missing here?

Excuse my ignorance, but the block being filled involves what, what I thikn of when I hear that is that all the coolant passages are filled in with material, but then what happens with cooling?

before i hit 427CI
(when it was 396) it was 'factory' as in GM parts

price includes stroking to 396
then restroking to 427
and the transmission work

i did the removal and re-install of the motor

I dont know much about the H/C combo, but wouldnt you see better results with a bigger cam and higher flowing heads than the LT4 set up on a 427?

But those extra 46 cubes can mean a WORLD of difference in terms of power. Even a properly set up 355 can blow a stock bottom end out of the water.

BTW, Nice setup.

That is stretching it. He made 478rwhp, so he has another 22 just to hit 500 let alone go past it. Yes he does have a few things left to try to get there, but that is squeeking ever last HP out of every aspect of the car... he even mentions running no belts to get more power which is pretty cheap imo...

I'm just curious how you stroked a LT4 to a 427.

As for head porters, who do we know of that consistently gets great results out of their work??

I can think of Joe Prince (don't go there, he's a great head porter ), and Lloyd Elliot. Those two consistently get good results with their heads. I know there's more out there. Chime in on this as it may be very useful to others.

The LT1 is weak compared to the LS1, but the LT1 can make ok power.

Exactly, I had a buddy making 380 at the wheels, with heads and a 230/236 X.e cam in his 97 through an auto, car still trapped a cool 117.

Here is 491rwhp through the mufflers.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121977

The numbers will jump well over 500 when these heads are released by AFR:

http://www.airflowresearch.com/pages/205cc_mongoose.htm

70 cfm more flow with the same port size as a stock LS1 head. (300cfm @ 205cc vs 230cfm @ 205cc)

They are gonna cost $$$ for the first year or so but will be worth it.
