can our cars do this?
Is there a lot wire going to the OPTI (sorry, i don't know LT1's)?
If so, install a switch between the ignition block and the 'distributor'. Hide it in the cab, and then the car will turn over but no spark...
That should be pretty easy to do.

you can do whatever you want all u have to do is ground the battery, my friend has his truck grounded to his ciggerette lighter, if its not in the truck wont start... and its a '75 he did it himself for about $2 worth of wires
one of my friends has a button that he wired up that you have to be pushing in, for the truck to start, im not for sure how he wired it up, but hes got a lot of customizing done to his s 10..i asked what the button was a few weeks ago, and thought it was pretty cool! i want a switch though!
i got a hidden switch on mine, you flip the switch off the car will still have power for like the radio etc just when you turn to try to start it it doesnt do a thing, no click no nothing. almosty like a drained battery lol.
I set up my dad's 68 camaro so that you have to turn on the radio to start it. His radio is wired to an "always hot" (you have to turn it off when you turn the car off so you don't kill the battery).
I just wired the "remote wire" (the one that would turn an amp on) to a rely that is inline with the starter wire. If you turn the radio on, the rely gets power and completes the circuit so you can start the car.

You could go to GM and put a "Hatch Release" button where the 98-02 Camaro's have theirs. That way even if someone knew what they were looking at wouldn't even know what to do! Plus who would think to push in a Trunk Release to start it up.
I had one in a truck one time. It used heavy guage wire. That was kind of a pain. I haven't looked at the wiring diagram or anything. I would assume there would be a low voltage control wire in the ignition some where. If there is I would suggest tapping into that.
