can our cars do this?

My sister used to have a 92 firebird, that was a V6 but someone dropped a V8 in it. She took it to a dealer and they did something to where the only way to turn on the car was to turn the parking lights on as a "security feature." Can 4th gens be wired to do this as well? Also, what ever happened to those motorized trunk latches???

you could wire the starter to the park light relay or to a hidden switch, that way you turn on the starter first before you start your car.

motorized hatches i think had too many problems, and waste of money.

Motorized hatches are great when the work, kinda like the flip up head lights on the firebirds. However, the simpler non-motorized hatches weigh a little less and aren't as apt to break.

If you really want to get creative, rewire the neutral safety switch so the car will start in neutral and not in park.

Even better is the feature some police cars have. The car can be started like normal, but hidden somewhere is a switch that must be pressed to put the car in gear.

With my car, you must hit the "unlock" on the power locks before the car will start.

What about the old stand by, the switch inline to the fuel pump. Or one step further, a momentary switch to pull in a relay that once pulled in, maintains itself (holds itself in with a second set of contacts) until the power is shut off and then opens up.

Sure you can do it ....there are many ways. For my M6 car I found it very easy to just add another switch/push button to the clutch safty switch curcuit. Push clutch and button at same time or no start.

How many PASS-key cars get stolen without the use of a flatbed or tow truck? I know the Corvette and F-bods went from the number one and two most stolen cars in the 80s to not even in the top 10 with the release of PASS-key. It's not super complex by todays standards, but seems to be enough of a PITA that our cars don't get "hotwired" often.

Do you people know lots folks who got there cars stolen without the thief having access to keys? I know quite a few Vette and some Camaro owners and it doesn't seem to happen much.

Guess it would help if someone stole your keys though.

You never know what may happen. Plus it would be a cool little feature to have to do something to the car before turning it on. Is there some sort of battery switch that can be placed in the car, or anyone know how to wire the parking lights to be on for the car to start?
