As an owner of both Fords and an LT1, and having a friend with a 96 or 98 Cobra (I forget which), I can say it will be a close race. No sense in arguing over the internet about it. Quit talking and go line 'em up

Ok I have owned a 98 GT it was SLOW. VERY SLOW. Not in denial. Dont get me wrong. I NEVER said I dont like Mustangs, but there is no denying they are slower than Z's and T/A. Minus the 03 Cobra which, by the way, needs a SUPERCHARGER to beat an F-Body. So to IrocMania, I have a clue what they are about. The 4.6's are not very fast. Stock for stock Mustangs have nothing. Sorry to burst your little ford bubble man.

I got that...do you realize he's talking about the 96-98 COBRA and NOT the GT, the cobra is DOHC not SOHC?

What do you define as slow?

Oh, and you need 50+ more cubes to barely beat a Mustang if the driver is good

Do u have any clue of what your talkin about...any stock 96-98 cobra 4.6 could give u a run for your money stock as your car sits right now....and a 99/01 will give u a whoopin...Its not the dohc 4.6 thats slow ...w/ the cobra its usually the driver

I know the difference between a GT and a Cobra. I was just commenting on the cars as well as my input for his question. Either way its all opinion when it comes to cars. People have there own thoughts and I am just going by my experiences. Not tryin to start a GM/Ford argument. Now to let the post go back to where it started.

I still stand by this.. there is a reason the new cobra has a supercharger.. they needed to finally bring the goods.. you can't take anything away from that.. or the naturally aspirated mach 1 either.. the horsepower fiasco was actually a screwup they had when rating their engines.. they modded the intake dynoed it and then added the extra smog etc.. so they made more power but parasitic loss took it away, hence many frustrated owners wondering why their buddies year older cobra was beating them..

You may still be able to look this up on the Car and Driver site.. anyway.. my car being a little different but still a bolt on LT1 with no cam..I have no trouble with older cobras on the street, normal GTs aren't worth the mention.. the 03 though, well I have a friend who just bought one that I will take a run at when I get the chance, he'll win but not by too much..

OK last one I swear. Notice I said F-Body too. So a 98 Cobra cant beat my 97 T/A. But an 03 can. I'll agree I was a little off when I said that anything under an 03 will lose. It all depends. But we still have a chance will our LT-1. And I dont need 50+ more cubes to beat a Mustang. Whoever said that must be smoking somethings he shouldnt.

There must be a lot of bad cobra drivers around here because I have owned more than one or two of them as well as almost every GT that shows interest. i have a friend that I raced in his 02 cobra that pulled a 13.9 at atco, and was still talkin smack. so i raced him on my way to the track and pulled him by a nose. when i got to the track, i pulled a 13.7 and he was still in the 13.9 range. i believe he did hit a 13.8 once though. The drivers in an M5 or M6 car are definitely more of a factor than people think though.
