Can a loose MAF connection cause a no start

Just finished new dist. install and car wont start. Got 40psi fuel and spark down to the plugs. Just before the dist. install when the car as running and i pushed the maf connector to the side the car would die. I was under the impression that if the MAF failed the computer went into Speed density and used the MAP sensor. Just wanted to check on this before I tear everything back apart to check the timing of the dist.(I know in my heart thats what happened ) Thanks

When your car is running and you disconnect the maf the car will die. If you start the car with the maf disconnected the car will run off the tables.

nope i have a obd1. i converted

if you look in the programming of the pcm you can in a sence turn off the maf and just run speed density. instead of unplugging the maf and gettign a code.

Well I unplugged the MAF and still got nothing so I guess I'm tearing it down again and check the placement of the dist on the cam
