Can I use a cracked bellhousing

I was taking off my transmission and I ask my brother if he had gotten all of the bolts off and he said yes. Well in fact he left on on and now I have a hairline crack at the top of the bellhousing. Can I still use it or do I have to get another on? Where could I get one at?

Thanks in advance

It really depends on where the crack is, but any crack is not a good thing. Have it welded. GM does not sell the bell housing separately from the tranny, so you would have to go to a salvage yard to get one to replace it.

The crack is at the very top of the tranny. Can this be welded at a muffler shop?

Thanks in advance

I would take it to a place that was well versed in welding aluminum. I doubt that it would cost that much.

Do what shoebox said and get it welded....would you rather your tranny unbolts and falls off when your drag racing or something?
