Oh yeah, and if you drive down the street with slicks, expect to be pulled over for that too.

Slicks are illegal anywhere on US roads, that's nothing new. They don't have the required tread depth, as they are smooth.
It's just hard to believe that some cop recoqnized them as being LT's....they could have been anything....and anyways - after about a week, LT's are shiny anymore, so then what; he was caught within a couple of weeks of installing them?

BTW: The fine is pretty harsh. And then on top of it my friend had to sell his near-new headers and lost some money on the deal again.
By the way, fix-it tickets don't cost anything as long as you fix it! So it's not that harsh. I got a fix-it ticket about 1 1/2 years ago in my truck for having a signal out. I put in a new bulb, had a mechanic check it off, sent in the ticket and all it cost me was about $2.50 for the bulb.

I'd love to see a copy of the ticket from your "friend"

Slicks are illegal anywhere on US roads, and LTs are illegal anywhere on California roads? Do you have a point?

Maybe your bulb was CARB certified. Seems like a CARB ticket is different than a corrective ticket. (-that's a fix it ticket BTW)

Try to see what kind of "fix it ticket" you get if caught without a catalytic converter. That's right folks.. It's not a fix it ticket, it's a fine.

There's also a reward for reporting people with no cats. Got a cat on your car?

Well, I got a friend that.....blah, blah whatever.....is that what were doing now....and I should have know that you were an emissions narc, ........please don't tell them that I have a CAT-BACK exhaust as seen in my sig, I don't know if I could handle.....
Also, yeah I think I know the difference between a fix-it ticket and a CARB ticket....so, your "buddy" was issued a CARB ticket or a Corrective ticket? I also noticed your extremely high post count, why isn't your "buddy" who also has a Z28, not on this board, while you seem to be on it all day?

Stop your insults.. You're gonna make me cwy!

LOL... Funny how we arrived at the current hostilities in this thread.. Over something that happened to a friend of mine, and everyone is calling BS. I love when people argue something they know nothing about.

(1) He got a CARB ticket.. I think that's painfully obvious. Got it now? There is a difference, glad to hear that you knew that.

(2) Yeah, I have a high post count.. I'm on here all day. You've found me out. (wait... what is it you found out again?)

(3) He was a member on the board.. But strangely, he's found better things to do. He never did have a high post count. I guess that's the difference bewteen him and I. I post a lot, he never really gave a sh** about this place. Hmm, oh well.

(4) Is your catback CARB certified? Probably. As for being an emissions narc... I've yet to turn anyone in, you'd be the first. I'm simply trying to get you to grasp the fact that you can get into some trouble in California over emissions. The state takes it seriously. You think this stuff doesn't happen? Wake up junior.

BTW: On the subject of sigs, yours is too long. You're going to have to shorten it.

You're not even making sense anymore, and yes I had my exhaust done professionally, and I do have more than 1 CARB sticker on my hood,
You act like I don't know California Law, and you're the only one that does......I've lived here my entire life.....
AND BY THE WAY, DON'T THREATEN ME, or try to belittle me by calling me, "Junior" and saying "I'd be the first" that you'd turn in.

I'm done with this, you're just a **** that thinks he knows everything,

and by the way, about my sig - MAKE me shorten it....

Now go back to your extremely demanding job of sitting on the Bulletin Board all day...[by the way, what does that PAY?]
You haven't even had a Z28 since almost a year ago, yet you sit on the Board all day.....HA HA HA.....now that's pathetic.....
NOW, I'm done...

I guess how emissions are checked from city to city in cali are different. I know at the smog place where I got my car checked at not only crawled down to check the cat. He also hit the cat to make sure it was not gutted. Then he went though and wrote down every CARB number I had and call in to the state board to see if they were correct. So the techs in my area do go all out to check to see if your car has the right equipment. I guess since the city of San Diego is cracking down on street racing, they are working (or demanding) with the smog place to crack down on illegal mods.

Exclamation

Exactly.

You're going to start seeing less and less shops going out on a limb to help you illegally smog your ride.

An old highschool friend of mine got out of the Army 4 months ago and got a job with a mom and pop garage here in town. He helped smog one of his friend's way modded cars. Somehow, they were found out, and CARB fined the shop $10000, and took this guy's certs to smog. That is a HUGE blow to a mom and pop.

They fired the guy. He's been trying to get jobs at other shops/dealerships.. But this is following him around wherever he goes. He might be better off to go see a recruiter again.

CARB violations carry a minimum $10,000 fine, and up to $250,000 and 10 years in prison... and people who kill other people get off for free... God I love the US.

Funny how you said your friend was pulled over for having longtubes. I came off the freeway a few weekends ago onto a street which is a good place to gun it. Well, I took off spinning the tires and saw 2 CHP cops pulled over on a side street. They didn't even go after me, they were probably having lunch or something.
I was kinda surprised.

The CHP and most other cops have better things to do than pull people over for these types of violations. If your caught racing, that is a different story. Out here in the San Fernando Valley, there have been illegal racing scenes which have been a complete bust in the last few years. They even had state carb officials looking under hoods for nitrous, turbos, and gutted or no cats. Cars were seized, people were arrested, etc.

I heard of this one guy with a mustang that got arrested for removing the cat converter. They seized his vehicle and ran it thru a smog test, where it failed.

This is why I run cats on the street. I am very confindent that my engine would pass a smog test if asked by a peace officer or carb official, even though I have longtubes. It is technically not legal, but hey, neither is going over 35 mph on most streets around here. If worse comes to worse, they would have to come off. No biggie.
