It's not that **** in california, well maybe in San Fracisco:P

I've never had any of my vehicles put on a dyno, I've passed the Bronco with a 200,000mile cat, hacked off exhaust to the cat, the tech looked under there and had no problem with it.

There are plenty of "friendly" shops around here, just don't tell anyone about them, a few have been closed by other shops telling the CARB that they were clean piping and other things, sent some people to jail for 10 years over a little pollution.

I'm thinking about getting an OBDII ECU programmed, and switching it when its time for emissions again. Who programs OBDII though?!?!

I just got smogged and the worst thing the guy is going to tell you is that he won't smog your car becuase it has aftermarket stuff on it. They looked for a set of cats and that was it. Paid my $20 and I was on my way home.

Really? Please, explain.

If I go point a flashlight at your car and it has LTs, do they disappear?

Or will they relect the light back to my eyes, which will in turn be routed as sensory input to my brain, at which point I will be able to see them? Probably that one.

Think, McFly.

It depends of the year of your vehicle....newer [I think 97 and up] are only every 2 years, but when they get older, it's every year. Of course the cutoff date changes every year.

What's going on here?

Are that many people really confused about my statement?

bad96firechikin, and anyone else that is cofused about this.. Let's repeat after me: Light up in his headlights

Science experiment. Tonight, after the sun goes down.. Find a vehicle with a chrome wheel. Point a flashlight at it. If it "lights up", come back and post the results.

The CHP officer was waiting at a light. It was dark, so, he had his headlights on. A Z28 went through the intersection in front of him. As it passed, the light being emitted by the headlights on his cruiser reflected off the long tubes hanging under the car. In laymans' terms.. ---HE SAW THE LONG TUBES.

Everyone clear?

No,
it's just not very believable, and definately could have been worded differently. That's not even a valid reason to be pulled over...
"Yeah, I saw your LT's under your car because they "lit up in my headlights", sir. So now pop your hood so I can look closer and give you a fix-it ticket."

GIVE ME A BREAK - If it did happen, it's probably the first, and last time it ever will.

Well, read up. It can happen.

If it happens to you someday, make sure you post it so I can say "that's not believeable"

BTW: obviously you were confused or you wouldn't have made this statement:

I wasn't talking about the cop seeing them glowing from heat.

Oh yeah, and if you drive down the street with slicks, expect to be pulled over for that too.

Are all the people in CA stupid or just scofflaws?

And, how many of you are going to look up the word "scofflaws"?

I very much doubt that there are many people who don't, at one time or another, hedge on the laws, whether breaking the speed limit or something else.

I say, do what you want. May be a long shot getting busted for illegal exhaust and worth the trouble if you just happen to be the one who gets caught, but hey, its CA.

Yeah, but comparing speeding to illegal-to-have headers is different. You're talking about two different levels of permanency.

When speeding, you can slow down pretty quickly. When you get caught with these headers, you can't cut around the next corner and take em off.

If you get caught and have to lose the headers.. It's a waste of time and money on something you can't use. For all the people that get away with it: good for you. But I don't have enough money to gamble on some headers.

BTW: The fine is pretty harsh. And then on top of it my friend had to sell his near-new headers and lost some money on the deal again.
