can i remove the guide plates and just run self alligning rockers

i bought afr heads and i wanted to reuse my basically new comp 1.6 rockers. there shouldnt be a problem as long as i find hardened washers to put in place of the plate? where do i find the washers and can i use these rr's without a problem.

It shouldn't be a problem to use self-aligning rockers and remove the guideplates. Just don't use SA rockers with guideplates.

I believe if you read the paperwork for those heads, they say that if you run SA rockers, remove the guideplates and use hardened headbolt washers there to keep the geometery right

dave you are correct but when i talked to an engine builder he tried to get me the washers and couldnt, which i found weird. I tried to call AFR but couldnt get through. SO i wont run into a problem if i get washers and keep SA rockers?

THANKS

I bet some ARP head bolt washers would work.

make sure the retainers set low enough to clear the rails of the SA rockers! If they hit the retainer you could do some serious damage. IE drop a valve.
