Can I remove the CAT at home?

What all is involved with removing the cat? What tools do I need etc? I plan on taking it off gutting it and then putting it back on, this is a temp fix until I get a highflow or just replace the cat with pipe...any tips or trix would help also! Thanx fellas

pull off the catback, raise the car. Get an air hammer or hammer and chisel. Hack away. Get a small brush to wipe dust and such. (Wear a mask for safety) and keep at it. Start car and rev engine. Sweep floor. Put cat-back back on Otherwise, you'll need to un-weld it to the y-pipe.

Of course, this is only theoretical, but you might do this if you could weld another converter on for street use.

well that sux, I was hopin it was bolted on the front and back with 2 flanges and not welded to the Y-pipe, I dont have a garage so I have to do repairs infront of my APT and they dont like 'major repairs' to be done to automobiles in the complex...no other alternatives? What if I unbolted the cat-back let it drop down and punched it all out with a long scredriver and hammer then rehooked the cat-back back up and revved it, would this clog any of my exhaust up or will it all just blow out the muffler in chunks? I have a flowmaster muffler...if that matters...

That is about what you do... But I would not attach the catback till after you revved it hard a few times. You will want it up so you can get under it. It will be loud when revved - but I wouldnt want that stuff going through any muffler if possible in that amount. Could clog it... Not likely a flowmaster, but it could.

You can't remove the cat unless you have a welder, or have a removable cat setup which most Y pipes do not have, stock surely does not.

Take off the Y pipe, and jam the stuff out, then put the Y pipe back.
