Cam and valve spring Q's

Ok i my buddy wants me to put a bigger cam in his truck.
His valve springs are good to .500" but the cam he wants in .487"IN and .490"EX will he be pressing his luck with the cam lift being so close to the max valve lift on the springs?

couldn't hurt to put the bigger springs on but its not necessarily needed unless you're running a higher ratio rocker arm.

There is a boat load of miles on it. Its a 68 C-10 truck. We are just rebuilding the motor. But he is on a tight budget. Thats why i ask about the springs cause that would be another 200bucks he would have to save for. Spring, shims, valve locks, retainers, and then machine shop work. But the heads came from a buddy of mine, which were on a mudding truck and i think has Crane Cam Blazer springs on it.

If I understand correctly the heads have been rebuilt with springs good for 500 lift and you're putting a 480 lift cam in the motor. If that is the facts then yes use them if a manufacter advertises good for 500 they build in a .060 margin. So the 480 cam should have .080 before coilbind. No problem with that combo. Frank95z
