Can I get one(1) lifter out without yanking the intake???

I have a long lifter removal tool that will reach the lifters. The only thing in the way is some cardboard from the head gasket (the part that has holes punched in it for the pushrods to go through) . Do you guys think I can enlarge the hole with an exacto knife and pull the lifter through? It should be cake as long I do not damage anything and I can get the cardboard out of there. What say you?

NO, do it right, dont try to cut corners, or I will be forced to take your car away and make you drive a yugo.

The lifters are held in place with a spider, and also have little metal retainers covering ever 2 lifters.

If the spider wasn't there I would say yeah, my felpro 1074's dont have those holes for the pushrods.. it looks like a regular head gasket.
