Can I expect any real gains from these?

http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/lt1/lt1power.html

I am looking at the first package as a starter. Can I expect any actual gains from this? If so how much?

Also after buying the first package I want to get the second one down the line. How much could that add to my hp/et?

My timeslips as I added a few mods. The CAI by itself isn't a big improver for the track. Part of the whole deal later, though, it is helpful. Gears, Drag radials, exhaust and PCM tune will make noticeable gains.
Hope that helps...

A cold air kit and a cat back would be a great mod for starters. Those two were my first things changed on the car also. Definitely consider a pair of lower control arms also. Those will stop wheel hop.

I got a full MAC package from Jet-Hot. I needed to be emission legal as the car is not a dedicated "race car". It also seemed easier, at least for me, to go through Jet-Hot and let them coat everything from the get go, than to get the pieces and then send off to them later on my own...

From Jet-Hot:
"We only carry one set that is 50 state legal. It’s made by MAC, and has mid-length headers and a new ypipe with high flow cats built in. Of course everything is coated with our Sterling finish, so we do give you a lifetime corrosion warranty as well. We sell this set for $953, plus shipping to you. It would be a nice upgrade for sure. Let me know if you have any other questions."

Argumentively, while the header pipes are labled as "mids", they are shipped from MAC as shorties. And since the driver's side cat on a 97 TA is against the drivers foot firewall... the pipes are more shorties than mids. But I am still happy with them.

You will see some gains, but nothing seat of the pants performance. However, those mods. are the basis for higher stuff that you may put on in the future.

My experience showed the Moroso/Callaway CAI and a Borla catback were worth 3/10's.

Re: Can I expect any real gains from these?

I had the Moroso on my 93, I had switched to it from the LG motorsports cold air. I gained 2 tenths and almost 3 mph over the LG peice.

To confirm this we put the LG on a freinds Z at the track he had a bone stock car that ran a 14.01 @ 99 mph being his best that day, With the LG he ran 3 times and the best was a 13.99 @ 99 something mph !!!!
We then pulled the Moroso off of my car and put it on his (didnt bolt the plate down just stuck it in there loose with the hose clamps tight)

He ran 2 runs and the first was a 13.90 something with a 101 mph trap.
His second I remember good was a 13.85 @ 101 mph !!

It is, plus it is one of the cheaper units on the market as well.
