Can a cam do this?

Hurt the mpg? Hurt a daily driver? Shorten the lifespan of a motor?

Consider good safe driving and only getting on it every now and then for a quick *** raping...

Re: Can a cam do this?

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

My car is my daily driver and I get a little worse gas mileage and I spun a main bearing a couple of weeks ago (just getting on it every once in a while).

Every motor is different and so is it's driver. I've heard of people with over 100,000 miles on a stock bottom end with the GM847 spinning the motor to 6500+ and having no problems and i've heard of people with the hot cam and the 224/230 cam (my cam) with spun bearings.

It totaly depends on what cam you go with.

Only 6K?? Sure.

I guess I saw about a 2-3mpg drop after the cam install in my car. But my car isn't tuned all that great. So I think I may be able to get an extra mpg out of it. You're not going to get a spun bearing just because you got a new cam. Spun bearing are going to happen because you're reving too high for the motor, and this can happen after a cam because it revs quicker.

Your mph won't be affected as much with the m6. As far as engine life, mine has 100k on it with a cam that makes the 847 look like a baby and have hit 6800 at least a few dozen times. So far the engine is just about the only thing that has survived the journey.

So then I shouldn't worry to much about it?

Also, how much do the Boxed BMR SFC'S help traction/taking turns?

Re: Can a cam do this?

If you want traction then definately get boxed SFC's. I went the redneck route and boxed in the factory control arms. It made a world of difference, even with the stock bushings. Wheel-hop is gone, and traction has improved by leaps and bounds. On anything other than slick old asphalt the car will hook! It's probably the single best mod I ever did.
