Can anyone help 93 TA engine problems

Hi everybody.

I have a problem with my fresh 383 engine.

Everything is rebuilt with a schneider cam and scat 9000 crank.

First my problem was the opti spark and it did not want to fire up, I replaced the opti last night and started the car and it fired right up and ran but, it seems that it's like way retarded in timing and it barely runs.

I am going to put the scanner on it today to see if it gives me a code.

It seemed to me like the computer wasen't getting signals for the timing part, or something similar as that.

The car has a stock computer for the best I know, and I have newer heard it run before this because I bought the car with the engine in boxes and I don't know how it was before.

If somebody has any clue what it could be, please let me know.

Thanks, Jon.

Since the Opti is driven directly from the Cam it is possible that the cam may have been installed one tooth off in relationship to the crank, unfortunately I don't know of any way to check that without removing the timing cover. As long as the Opti is properly engaged with the cam thats the only way your timing could be far off

Ok.

But is it possible that the computer might not be getting signals to correct the timing??

I don't think it's the cam being off and the opti can only go one way in to the timing gear.

You need to get a chip. I have never ever seen anyone wtih a '93 run their cammed car without a chip. I didnt even know it was possible! Expecially with a stroker. lol

Well I wanted to get the car running to begin with and then fine tune the rest after I got it running you know, I thought the computer would atleast make the car run properly.

Could it be a chip problem then??

I thought this through it doesen't make any sense that the stock computer would not handle a bigger cam.

And the timing gear is right.

What could I be dealing with, a bad computer or???

ok`got a custom chip, now the car doesen't run at all, I'm getting little spark, and the scanner doesen't either want to communicate with the computer.

I have ordered a new opti (have new one in here from autozone but ??)

I am thinking could the ecm be failing or is it a combo of the opti+ecm???

This is starting to get annoying..........................

please tell me what you think guy's!!

Thanks,Jon.
