Cam swap: Are RR's a must?
Cam swap: Are RR's a must?
Putting i a cc306 with some 612 springs. Trying to save money (wife friendly)
I have read on here both ways. What kind of risk am I taking by keeping a stock set of rockers?
If it bends one, I replace it--- if it snaps will it drop a valve?

Re: Cam swap: Are RR's a must?
You'd have to break the valvestem tip or so to drop a valve, but anyting could happen , if one "breaks" it is usually through the stud area or the pushrod mating area. But that would be hardened steel fragments now through the motor.
Re: Cam swap: Are RR's a must?
Well I have done a lot more searching.
Seems several people have said they have ran stock rockers on a 306 ranging from 1month to @ 1 year before buying roller rockers. I have seen several valid explanations of why you should not do it this way, but have not heard of anyone doing this and blowing up.
Plan to buy some RR's in 2-3 months. We will see.
Ordered everything else from cms minutes ago.

Just set the # 1 cylender up first and run it through its cycle and see if anything hits or comes too close. I would keep spring pressure onthe conservative side as well.
Re: Cam swap: Are RR's a must?
If you want to keep it "wife friendly" then I suggest getting everything done right and at the same time. Why? because if you nickle and dime it, every time you skimp you risk at bit more,i.e. something may break simply because you weren't willing to spend the money to have it done properly the first time.
And try explaining that to your wife, i.e. "it broke down again and I just can't figure out what went wrong." JMHO

$270 is not nickel and dime.
But like a said, no one has posted a negative experience with doing this (that I can find anyways) but plenty of people have gone the same route. From what I have read the 1.5ish ones will be easier on most parts of the valve train.
I understand that this is not the best way to go about it. I appreciate the suggestions, but what I was asking for was a risk assesment. What can actually go wrong? After 2 days of using the search button I have not found anything that says specifically what might go wrong.
One guy asked if the rockers would bind up, the response he recieved was no and that is the best I have found.
