Cam question

I have a mostly stock 96 Z28 A4, how hard is it to change the cam? Do you have to lift out the engine?

I would like to get it in the high 12's/ low 13's, is this the best way as far as expense and being a daily driver.

Thanks again for your help.

It is not that difficult if you have any automotive expereince and the right tools. You do not nee to pull the motor. There are alot of install guide the some of the board members have put together.I think shoebox has one and also brent franker.Do a search.I would recommend doing headers, catback and a cold air so get the max power out of the cam also if you can swing it get your heads ported and your pcm tuned. If you just want to run low 13's high 12's get all the bolt ons and you should be there.good luck.

I wouldn't recommend getting a cam until you've done converter/gears/headers.

With those, and other bolt on's I ran 12.9's alone.

I currently have a Random Tech 3" cat-back, SS functional Ram air hood, de-screened and polished MAF, 160 stat, SLP manual fan switch, and run synthic oil in everything.

My best run to date is a 14.002 at 98 mph with a 2.0 60ft.

I have been told that headers will not make that much of a difference, that free flow cats would be a better add-on.

As for gears and a converter, will 3.73's and a 2800 stall do the trick? do I need to add a trans cooler ?

I was planning on having Fast Chip do my reprogram, they just did a chip for my dad's vette and he gained 3 tenths

I would like to get in the 12's by the summer, what should be my next purchase?

Do I need to worry bout suspension yet? ex. torque arm, control arm

Thanks again for your thoughts.

With all the bolton's,3.73's and a converter you will be in the 12's with a drag radial.
