Smile Cam, Programmer, springs

Hello everyone, I just bought a 1994 z28. It is an automatic but i got a good deal for it so i was ok getting an at. It also has 3:73 gears and a shift kit.It already has full exhaust and intake. I am wanting to put in a mild cam, i want to get a programmer and i do want to lower the car a little bit. Can anyone give me some technical info about the cam, programmer and springs? For the cam i would like to know the intake and exhaust info. The programmer, i would like something that is easy to use and for the springs, i would like something that i made for it, no universal stuff. I am currently deployed in afghanistan, i will be home in a few weeks. Thank you.

Re: Cam, Programmer, springs

Not sure how specific you want to get but search for info to supplement this:

Tuning: Programmers are worthless in my opinion, you need to talk to Ed Wright at FASTCHIPS, Ion Soltan at Mad Tuner [Madwolf], Bryan Herter at PCM4LESS, or Moe Bailey at Moeperformance.

It is absolutely necessary to match the springs and camshaft together. So unless you run something off the shelf with proven parts or part you KNOW will work, perhaps consider a custom camshaft and valvetrain from experts like Lloyd Elliott or Advanced Inductions. Both have proven their knowledge of LT1 cars for years. I've run 4-5 different camshafts and in my opinion I wouldn't swap a camshaft for anything smaller than a Hotcam or XE503. I have a XE503 and car feels like it has the same or more bottom end that it did stock. If I had to pick a camshaft for a 350/355 with stock or mild heads it'd be the XE503 or Lunati 60121, or a custom one from Elliott's Portworks.

Don't forget to look into a decent converter: Precision Industries, Edge, Yank, etc.

Re: Cam, Programmer, springs

If you mean you want to buy software that allows you to program, you would use one of these:

TunerCat

CARPUTING.COM

Also, see this thread on the "Computer Diagnostics and Tuning" forum:

https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/com...torial-759772/

If you are looking for a hand-held, there's nothing available other than the Hypertech, and that can't tune for a cam. It has a single "power program" this is intended for basically stock engines.

While you will get more detailed responses by posting the question regarding lowering springs in the "Suspension....." forum, here's a source that has well-matched spring/shock combos.
