Cam and Lifters..

Kinda a newbie but just a quick question.. I plan on buying the Hot Cam Kit and also need to replace to lifters.. what lifters do i get and where can i order them from?? Also, i need to replace to oil pump.. any oil pump that should be preferred over any other? If i get the kit, do i need new fuel injectors or anything or can it wait if i dont have the cash at this moment.. ?

Stock injectors are fine for a hotcam.

If your mileage isn't too high and your lifters aren't damaged for any reason, you can reuse them. Over 100k I'd probably replace 'em while I was there.

As far as what to replace them with, I'd go with Comp OEM style lifters.

Just a quick question....why do you believe that you need to replace your oil pump?

Crane also makes OEM lifters too, not just Comp.

Thunder Racing carries the Comps.

And what about your oil pump?

Re: Cam and Lifters..

Honestly since by your own admission you are a newbie I strongly encourage you to do a lot more reading before you buy anything. Newbies gravitate to the HOT cam one because the magazines talk it up and two because SSSSOOOOOO many have gone with it before them many out of shear ignorance. So many people go with it before even considering anything else might actually exist that it keeps getting more press and the vicious cycle of ignorance keeps spiraling out of control.

I am not saying it is a bad cam or that all that use it don't know what they are doing. Just that there are A HUGE NUMBER of other good choices out there that deserve attention before you decide on this or any other one.

Re: Cam and Lifters..

Put a stock oil pump back on it.
Reuse your existing lifters if they are in good shape. No need to buy any replacements as the factory ones are as good as is out there.

So if there is a possible oiling system problem, why would you worry about a HOTcam kit? Plus, if you have visible damage to your bearing and journal surfaces upon inspection a new oil pump is going to do absolutely no good at all. You'll be pulling the motor for a rebuild.
