cam lift question

ok so my buddy that has a modded camaro came into town today and i took him for a run in my camaro , and we were talking bout my car after we took a ride in it , and he was listing to the exhaust and said my car has a mild cam in it cause u can hear a mild lope in the exhaust, he told me there isint no way my car doesnt have a mild cam in it.

because his car did not sound like mine and his sounded so much less lopey with the same exhaust . and also the way it runs to. and had alot more power then his stock

so my question is can i measure the lift with a dial indicator with the valve cover off and see how much lift the cam has?

also we came to the conclusion that my car engine has possible been rebuilt to a 355 because it has 180k miles and doesent tick, knock, smoke or anything and the engine and under valve cover are way to clean and this car runs way to fast to be completly stock, no oil leaks anywhere

so far i have the car tuned , stock manifolds, no cats, flowmaster series 40, new opti,

so what do u think?

Why don't you take the valve covers off and see if you still have stock rockers or not, the car might just have 1.6 rockers and you don't know it. If this is the case, it would have a little more "lope" and perform better than is car did with the exhaust and stock cam.

Wait a minuet, it says in your signature that you have "comp roller rockers" so you know the answer to your own question. I am sure you didn't buy 1.5rr's (stock ratio) if you actually took the time to get them and install them on your stock cam.

yes but i still didnt check the lift of the cam , but it had the lope before the rockers

i bought the car with most of the mods already done except for the rockers and msd coil and new opti,,

the previous owner owned the car for a short period of time and didnt know if the engine was rebuilt?

Have you compared yours to other camaros? One thing is true for sure though, your engine has a cam in it.

If you are really interested you should be able to measure the lift with a dial indicator. It may not be super accurate unless you can account for any collapse of the hydraulic lifter. If you can measure anything more than .500 lift at the valve you have an aftermarket cam.

LOL,

even 1.6 rockers is not going to give you a little lope. the duration at .050 is only like 202 and 207 on a 117 LSA. the comp 503 on a 114 LSA has a slight lope. if it runs harder that other LT1's and can beat a few LS1's i bet it has an up graded cam. BUT IT DOES HAVE A CAM IT IT.........

i have compared my camaro to 7 camaros in my town and 2 more that my buddy owns and it rapes them badly for some reason, and killed a el camino in brandon, fla that had a well built 350 , i really need to get this puppy on the track and see what she runs after i get new rear tires they look like drag radials lol but damn sure dont hook like them,

i have had this car past 140mph and it was still pulling solid plus she really doesnt come alive till 3k rpm then screams from there. so who knows ,

i would like to email someone pics if they wanna look at the engine. of the engine compartment and u guys tell me if u think the engine compartment is to clean for a 180k car

the last burn out i did with this car it was bout 150 ft long and went from first threw second and part of 3rd till i let off

i need a 2500 stall bad in this car

next move on this car is pulling the trans puttting in a 2500 stall , fully built 700r4 with alto red eagle clutches and kolene steels hardend input and output shafts and a nitro steel driveshaft, ford 9in spooled, right now im at a crossroad with this car its either build it for turbo or N/A but i like the drivability of turbo so i guess thats gonna be my route ,

Black mark lenght don't tell us much, what kind of tires are you running? I managed to get my car to do a 3rd gear burn out once, but I think its to hot out now for the tires to spin.

Yes, you can measure lift by taking the valve cover off and using a dial indicator.
