Which cam and intake for LT4 cnc'd heads?

Trying to help my brother here. He has a 97 Z, auto trans and is his first time modding. So far he had only added Hooker long tubes and Borla. He bought the cnc'd LT4 heads from sdpc but they no longer have the LT4 intake because of the ceased production. He didnt give me time to do some research on here before he ordered them to see if that was his best option for the money!? Anyway is his best option to wait for the new Air-Gap edelbrock LT-4 manifold? Also I think he is leaning towards the LT4 hotcam. Is there a better cam w/more lift that will work better w/theses heads like the cc306? and which roller rockers and throttle body will be best?

Ok I guess more info would be helpfull. The car is not a daily driver, every couple of weekends it is driven. A cam recomendation for the stock converter would be best also as he has not decided to change it yet.Any help would be appreciated, we are ready to order the remaining parts to finish up the install.

Check the classifieds on these boards for an LT4 intake, its going to end up being pretty pricey. If time permits i might just suggest sending those heads back to SD because given the price your going to pay for the LT4 intake and the performance increase (if any) over a ported LT1 casting LT4s really are not the best way to go. If your going to stick with those heads, then i would probably go with the LT4 HOT cam. It probably wont work great with the stock converter (not many will) but its about the biggest you can use with the LT4 springs that those heads most likely will come with. You could always talk to one of our many cam grinding board members about a custom grind as well.

Unless he can afford to put a converter in it also I guess he should stay w/the hot cam then as you recommended.I wish I would have known more about the LE head and cam packages like you have, that would have probably been a better choice and saved a ton of money! but he already has the heads. Should he go with 1.6 rockers to help the lift on the Hot cam and would a bigger throttle body be needed w/ these heads?

You can always get a LT1 intake welded up to fit to a LT4 head. Lloyd does this as well. I've never seen the CNC ported SDPC heads so I don't know what to tell you there.

Im in North Carolina and I understant what you mean on welding and building up the LT1 intake, but what about edelbrocks intake that is due out soon? Would it be worth waiting for?

define "soon"

How fast do you need it? There's no indication when one of these will actually exist and be sold. We're still waiting for the Edelbrock LT1 intake they put in their catalog in 1995.

If those heads he got come with the standard LT4 valve springs then 1.6 rockers would be fine to use with the HOT cam.

A hotcam with cnc'd LT4 heads? What a freakin' waste of money all around...

Re: Which cam and intake for LT4 cnc'd heads?

I have an LT4 intake Im going to be getting rid of next week. It was originally drilled for L98 heads (different bolt holes) but I bought it. I had AFR LT4 heads... but they ****ed me on my order... so I cancelled them, and went with LE heads. I had the L98 holes filled, and the LT4 holes redrilled. The intake is brand new, never installed... but shows minor metal work due to the hole conversion. If your interested in it, let me know.

One of those things I guess. If he can't return/exchange those heads then hes stuck with them. With a half way decent cnc and the hotcam he should be able to make around 350rwhp on a good tune. I'm concerned with the converter though which may not be much fun out of hole.
