Cam installed, first impressions and times

Well I finally got my issues with the opti sorted out and my car running good. I just finished installing a comp cams 224/236 on a 113lsa with 1.6rr and all the other goodies. Stock heads. It sounds mean at idle. Love it! Car drives really well on the stock tune, with a little cam surge under 1500rpm. Not really bad at all!

I got a chance to g-tech the car before and after on a FLAT (really really flat) section. Mods are ram air hood/airbox, edelbrock headers and Borla catback (small plate). (95 formula hardtop, m6)

Before cam install 13.48 @ 106
After cam install 13.01 @112

Pretty happy with the results especially on a stock program. Cant get it to rev high enough, the cam seems to love 5000rpm+!

I'll have dyno numbers soon

at first I read '112 mph' and i thought u were full of crap....but then I read that you used a G-Tech to test your times instead of going to the track, and I now fully understand. People always talk about how the G-Tech is so accurate, but I strongly disagree. HOWEVER, the one thing the G-Tech is awesome at is tracking the improvement a mod has provided. In this case it looks like you had NICE gains from the cam. I gotta get me one of those!

I agree, especially with that size of a cam. Many guys have gone faster than that with stock heads and even a smaller cam.

One thing that I will say is that 106 is pretty high for not having a cam, so maybe that speed numbers are about 2 mph high overall.

FYI.. Bolt ON car.. w/ no RR"s.. on a Gtech trapped 108,3.. Took it to the track and it trapped 108.67.. w/ a best mPH of 109.55.. In my experiance w/ the GTech it was pretty close.. Don't know if it was a fluke though!

A G Tech will work really well if you're on a nice flat surface, and you set it up correctly.

You dont need a cam to do 106. I went in a convertible with a 6 speed 105.8 with only mods being shorty headers, CAI, Lt4 Knock module, Crane ignition, air foil. High Flow cat. Full exhaust no cutout. It went 13.05 to be exact on time also. I have a few people who are my best friends from around here and from the local board that can confirm this. Broke the motor down after i mis downshifted and spun a bearing. Was bone stock inside. This was in september with some real cool temps. But it is possible without a cam.

Mike

Also I know location plays a big factor in track times as well.

Robbie went 107mph with LT's, true duals, CAI, and a tune with a 95 6spd. Trapping like a 6spd LS1 is very possible, you just have to pick and choose bolt ons carefully.

yep a fellow here with AS&M shorties & A4 trapped 106 mph, did 13.5@106 thats impressive, everyone else is 105-107 with just headers around here & 109-112 with just cam. The heads guys seem to go about the same LOL, every once in a while you'll see a 117mph heads/cam car here but most people with heads don't see much gains here which is weird cuz I tune them all.

Re: Cam installed, first impressions and times

I read in Motor Trend that they tested a G-Tech at the track and were within .1-.2 on et's, and it was consistantly over by 2-3 mph in the 1/4.
