cam install questions need help fast

i have a crane 227 cam, and a 93 lt1 motor, on the front of the cam where the timing key sticks out it sticks out farther than the one on the stock cam shaft, should i grind it down to the same size, or tap it in? and with what ever i do should i heat it or what? thanks for the help

The dowl pin is what you mean. And it needs to be the same length as your stock cam or it will wear on the back of the opti-spark and ruin it pretty fast.

First try to hammer it in. If that don't work file it down, but try to get it as close to the same length if not a TINY bit shorter then your stock cam.
