yes i did my cam swaps on my lt1, the timing chain can hang from the bottom, and the cover can come off or just swing back like how mine did. 20hrs is still tolong and 14 hrs is too, i didnt know that much when i did mine but it still took less then 14 hrs mor leike 6 or so but thats just me i new from my friend who did it how to do it.

How did you get your timing cover off without destroying the oil pan seal? Or did you just spend another 30 minutes
and slap a new one on there quick. You must have a special edition of the LT1.-brent

lolI spent about 60 hours on mine, but i had TONS of stupid setbacks (broken bolts in block for example), and spent alot of time polishing parts, wiring electric h20 pump and other misc details. Also was using the crappiest spring compressor to try and compress HUGE springs = nightmare. If i was just doing the cam, and had all the right tools, i would guess ~20 hours for first time. The second time did my cam it took about 6 hours, but i was just re-timing it, so intake and springs didnt have to come off.
