Cam help

I was thinking about purchasing a comp cam 233/239 .569/.577 @ 112 but i was wondering how many rpms you'd have to turn for this cam and how streetable this would be. I have a hotcam w/ 1.6rr, headers, tune, bullet muffler and dumped at rearend. heads are stock with about 2000 miles on them. Im just wanting some more power and my buddy wants my hotcam, so what do you guys think i should do???

Re: Cam help

Too big for a stock shortblock. Comp's rpm ranges seem to be based on old long intake runner gen 1 stuff so an LT1 needs to be revved 800+rpms higher than their advertised rpm range.

You want a shelf Comp cam to step up from a HOT cam on a stock shortblock do a 503 cam.

Re: Cam help

I agree that the cam mentioned is large for a street car. My choice would be less duration and a narrower LSA.

But than again, I have some odd cam ideas! They do seem to work though. Here are chassis dyno charts from a number of years ago when I did a cam swap on my race car. The graph is unintentionally misleading in that the swap was from an outdated flat tappet to a state of the art roller with higher CR to go with the larger cam. But it just shows how much potential power there is in a cam.
