Cam Grease?

I am currently re-building my top end, Heads/ Cam etc. I bought a Joe O cam and it didnt come with any type of cam grease. In the manual it recommends you grease up the cam before installing. Is it a big deal of what grease I buy, and do i even need to do it? Thanks for the info. -Matt

Re: Cam Grease?

This is definitely something you should do. The grease is to keep the cam lubed until oil reaches the cam journals/lobes. You should be able to buy some at the parts store. I used engine assembly lubricant the first cam I did.
I know ARP makes some too, I have used that also.
Edit- Just did a search and some people use gear oil, and some use engine oil. Do a search it will tell you more.

Re: Cam Grease?

I use Sta-lube black graphite moly lube. Also the Permatex engine assembly lube is good, nice and sticky.
