The problem is that Comp Cams installs a short pin, therefore grinding isn't the solution.

The cam I just got appears to have a long pin on it.

Measure the pin, if it's over .570" long then it's correct. The LT1 core from Comp should come with a long pin if it's shorter then you have to change it. All the cams I do for Lloyd should come with one this length, but sometimes it happens that they come out too short, maybe 1-2 a year.

I was under the impression that if the pin was too long that it would tear up the opti???

It creates havoc if longer than .650". I set mine at .620" as my cam came with one too short as well.

The unvented opti does not need the extended length.

My LE1 cam had a shorter dowel pin than my stock cam, but if you stood both cams up on their ends(LE1 and stock cam)....the dowels of both cams were nearly identical(level) so the cam length itself was slightly different....and both cams protruded into the opti the same depth.....I felt this was worth mentioning because I think it's also a good idea to not only check the dowel pins length on the cam itself, but also it's depth going into the opti......I always put a globb of Black GREASE (in the opti) exactly where the cams dowel pin drives the opti....install the opti for a second, remove it and then see how far the cams dowel went in......Not trying to hijack the thread here, but ...does anyone know how far is considered "ideal" for the cams dowel pin to protrude into the opti......I've always just made sure that they went in as far as possible without bottoming out...and have never had an issue with doing this after many cam installs...But was just wondering since this thread brought it up?...........thanks............Joe

If found some old notes in my archives. One said .300" and the other .320". It needs to be long enough to index the cam gear and short enough not to contact the back of the opti. That leaves a lot of leeway.
