Cam dowl change
Has anybody ever pulled the dowl pin from the camshaft and installed a new one by themselves? My new le2 cam came with the short pin and my stock cam has the long one. I want to try to just swap these. I dont want to have to take the motor back out. (just got it in) I have already spent way to more money than I should have so a machine shop is not really an option. Thanks.

Thanks.agreed. maybe the pin is shorter but not too short. If it pin is sticking out further than the cam bolts then it should be good.

I called about 15 machine shops within a 50 mile range from me, none of them could help me. Then I got lucky and found one that wasnt busy at the time and said to bring it in.
Ended up taking me and him about 20 minutes to get it out, then he said 10$ would work.

Tapped in a new pin to the proper height. I'll never forget to check the pin length in a new cam again!
Unfortunately I had to perform this operation with the cam installed into the engine and was successful. I degreased the dowel pin with brake cleaner, clamped onto the dowel pin with a pair of vice grips, placed a long screw driver through the vice grip "opening" and butted it against the front of the motor using a block of wood, and used a hammer on the other end of the screw driver to tap it out. A slide hammer would probably be a better method.

You know I just got my LE4 cam, and noticed that the pin was short also. Why is comp doing this if they know there is a longer doweled year model? It makes sense to grind to your specified length. In fact my 503 was longer doweled from comp. I wonder what they are doing?
