Cam choice for LT1
Hey guys, ive been checking into cams, and my definate choices are either the cc305 or cc306. I noticed that the 306 requires::
machining on the cylinder heads for the valve springs and seals.
and also a modified computer, I have my computer in the shop RIGHT now, and i need to let them know what cam im going to use, is this what they mean in the cam description as " modified computer" ?
Also would it be worth it to do the machining on the heads or just stick with the cc305?
P.S. I'd rather have the 306, but wondering of its too costly for how much more performance?
I am spending a ton of money, and to be honest, i really am not in that much of a hurry at all. But I dont need something thats going to set me back WAY behind
.. Thanks a ton!

Well there is a big difference between the cc305 and the cc306. One is very streetable and emmisions friendly(cc305) and the other not as streetable and is not emissions friendly(cc306). So when decideing make sure you don't have to deal with emissions. You can go without getting your heads done with the cc306 but some people run into issues. The cc305 would be fine on the stock heads.
Yes that is what they mean by "modified computer" you have to get a different computer tune with that cam to make it run right. The cc306 will give you more power but it will cost you more money to do it because of the heads. If you have the money and don't have to worry about emissions then get the cc306. But otherwise you might be better off sticking with the cc305. Remember there are a lot of cams inbetween the cc305 and the cc306. Check out cmotorsports.com Good luck.

there wont be any difference in the price for either one. new rr, diferent springs, new push rods, and gaskets, lock and retainers, and a computer tune. and the cams cost the same. so there really know sence in basing your decision on price.
i would run the comp 987s and crane makes springs that will handle both of those cams , either one you choose and they dont reqiure any machining for them either. you will make more power with the 306.
you need to worry about emision (if thats a concern) and drivability. the 306 is not that big of a problem really, as far as drivabiltity goes. but if your going to do head work later, then i say go with the 306
