Is this cam alright for my setup?

Ok... this is what I want to put in,
Advertised duration: 293/299
Duration at 0.050": 242/248
Lift (1.5 rockers): 0.540"/0.562"
Lift (1.6 rockers): 0.576"/0.599"
LSA: 114
IC: 110

This is my current set up, forged 355 .525 lift on the intake side, eldelbrock lt1 heads (simmilar to an lt4 head) 1.6 rr 7psi V1 t-trim 36 lb hour injectors 58mm TB. Would I see some decent gains with this cam and some tuning. I know I might need some larger injectors, but I was more worried about the heads being able to flow enough.
Thanks

242/248 on a 114... hmm, you're gonna spin the **** out of it. Get your mains studded, or go 4 bolt mains, and you should be fine. I expect a peak hp at close to 7000rpm.

I'd think the cam is a bit on the large side for those heads. What do the edelbrocks flow? I thought they were for mild combos. I've heard the valvetrain they use is subpar, and for the money, you could get a nice LE setup or a base AI setup. I would like to see some nice numbers from the edelbrocks tho.

SStrokerAce I think you understated that.

What is way off? My comment or his cam choice? I'm wondering because if I remember correctly, even you stated that the heads would be good if ported, but that "stock form makes no sense." Granted he didn't say if they were ported or not, but I would think the heads are too small for a t-trim blower in the first place. Also, wouldn't TX be right, as it would peak near 7K? With edelbrocks heads, they claim a 500 rpm increase in peak power, and my cam peaked early, most say about 6000. With a cam that large and those heads, I'd expect 6800 or higher peak. Unless he's running a standalone, he can't go but 200 rpm higher, so he can't take full advantage of the power it will make. Maybe I shouldn't have said that the cam was a bit large for the heads, as there are guys running similar cams on stock heads, but its not optimal right? Then again, what do I know? My off the shelf cam choice and single valvesprings only made a bit more power (peak and under the curve) than an expensive "custom cam" setup.

brain, yeah the cam choice is way off not your comment. IF you can get the valvetrain to work up in the RPM range where it would peak it would be way to high for a street car.

Re: Is this cam alright for my setup?

Thanks for the help... The eldelbrok heads flow A little better then an lt4 I don't have the exact flow numbes hear but when I get home I will post them, they are unported with upgraded springs, retainers, locks and 1.6 RR's So what do you think would be the largest cam I could run with the setup that is on my car, peak power somewhere between 6200-6800

To much cam. A 306 pushes it on a nonstroker. Something bigger would be insane. and it would have to spin up to 7k.

Re: Is this cam alright for my setup?

so a 306 on a 114lsa for the blower would probably work well?

Re: Is this cam alright for my setup?

Nah man, a cc306 is a typical NA cam... A cam for forced induction is WAY different than one for NA (read: OVERLAP!!). I've read and read and read for hours on end to find a good cam for my setup and came to the conclusion that this is one topic to really listen to the professionals and pay for their help/parts.

You're so far off on your guesses that I would HIGHLY recommend just giving your head specs and setup info (desired boost, HP, power curve, etc) to a cam builder/manufacturer. You're might spend a little bit more but I haven't met anyone that picked their very first cam exactly right without someone's help.

Just the money you'll save in raw costs of swapping the cam when you're not happy will justify getting a professional involved in the first place. You could start by calling one of the major manufacturers and seeing how helpful they are - they'll give you a somewhat conservative estimate. Whoever helps you the most and seems to genuinely pick a cam for YOUR setup, just buy it from them and go from there.

Well time to call some cam companies.... By the way the eldelbrok heads I have, Nobody waste there money on them they flow marginaly better than stock not as good as an lt4 head (which I was under the impression they where better) And for the price you can get one hell of a port job on your stock heads that will blow my Edel's out of the water. Oh well maybe I'll get these heads ported or go with some afrs.

Re: Is this cam alright for my setup?

Just to throw this bit of info out there - it seems lately that instead of trying to make a "blower motor", the best way to go would be to optimize the motor n/a, then apply boost. Now, that is of course within reason. If you are making a street car, you don't want a 12:1 FI motor. But, going from 8.5:1 to 11:1 can make a HUGE difference if running race gas. It looks like some people try to OVERTHINK the cam. I'd pick a cam that will peak where you want it, or maybe a few hundred rpms lower for the blower - I know a positive displacement blower doesn't raise peak power rpms much, what about a centrifugal? IMHO, gone are the days of crippling the motor N/A to have a decent blower motor. Build a decent motor, and have a killer blower motor.

Port the edlebrocks..... You could probably see some good results with that for a stock cube motor.

If you "build a decent (NA) motor" and put a blower on it you will not have a killer blower motor, you will have a dead blower motor.
