cam advice / would like to attempt swap
cam advice / would like to attempt swap
I'm not an expert to all the numbers that are out there with different cams, but i've been debating supercharging and decided to do a cam package insted. I'm looking for something thats going to sound mean and slightly more powerful than the LT4 kit. I have the basic bolt ons and suspention mods, just need to make the motor produce more power. I'd like to go with a mean cam, cc306??, would like to run around a 12 sec 1/4 mile on just the motor, I'm currently around a 13.6- 13.8 with my current setup of bolt ons.
My question is... what would be a good complete list of parts i should go with?
1. the cam of course
2. Heads? new or ported and polished???
3. lifters
4. rods
5.?? i dont know what all i would need to do the change, thats why im asking. i've never gotten really into taking motors apart.
i'm guessing i would need a better than stock throttle body to feed in the air. what about my intake? should i just port the front to match a 58mm tb? or go with a LT4 intake? I would need matching heads for that intake tho right? I'm looking for some advice and not looking to spend upwards of $3000. It's going to go on the credit card and be paid off in the long run. i just need something to do to keep me busy.
thanks guys, most of my mods are listed in the sig. I ran a 13.8@ 106 over summer with 85* out and none of my suspention mods and normal kumho 275 street tires, i'm hoping for a 13.6 or so the way it's sitting now. i've got all the kinks worked out and my pcm is finally tuned properly, i had it a mess when i ran the 13.8 It's a true SS

Re: cam advice / would like to attempt swap
I would just save your money and get your stocks heads all done up. I would also just get your stock intake ported, they flow very well as is. What kind of driving are you doing with your car (topend, bottom end.etc) that will determine where you want to make your power and what cam would best work with your setup. As for your throttle body you could upgrade to a 52mm or even stick with the stock one. There are guys running over 600hp still with the stock throttle body. You wnt get much out of an upgraded throttle body, just save your money and spend it on something else.
Re: cam advice / would like to attempt swap
I dont do much driving over 80 mph too often, here and there on the highway i'll take her up to about 130 or so messin around with other peoples cars, I mostly want it for the track. I'm looking to run close to a 12 flat as possible. while everything is appart i'll have my heads done(dont know how to have them done yet) and possibly smooth out my intake while it's off and powdercoat it. I'm looking to make a higher rpm hp, too much low end might be bad for my rearend if you know what i mean, i have enought starting power as it is, i just want it to keep going when the rpm rise, where an ls1 would overtake the lt1 i want to toast the ls1.
i dont need to mess around with pistons or anything like that right? just the cam itself headwork and timing chain? what about my injectors? they good enough? everything else good enough to handle the swap?
what kind of HP would i be looking at with the cc306 and a nice head job? keeping the rest stock?

Re: cam advice / would like to attempt swap
The cc306 is a good cam but i would look around first. I was originally going to go with it but then i discovered the one i have now and i love it. The botom end is sweet and it keeps pulling right up to as much as you could let the bottom end take. Get a good p+p on the heads and get some bigger stainless steel valves and some beefier springs to handle whatever lift your new cam will be. Pick up some comp promagnum or crane gold 1.6rr's as well.
Re: cam advice / would like to attempt swap
no actually i just got it finished and it's sleeping for the winter we have lots of snow in canada. I took it on the hihway for a little bit and it's sweet in all the rpm ranges and it still has a very aggresive idle
