Which cam?

I am thinking about Lingenfelter 211/219. My car is a dd and I really want wheel spinning torque. Is this a good cam?

Anyone using/used this cam? How are the gains? Any dyno #'s?

I have heard gas mileage is excellent with this cam. Any thoughts? please post mpg if you are running this cam and know.

My car is a stock a4. will I need to upgrade the valvetrain or torque converter with this cam?

Re: Which cam?

Im no cam expert by any means but never heard of that cam. Thats a really small cam. If your going to do a cam install Id definately go bigger, I think you will be dissapointed with a cam that size. Sorry I can't give ya much information on it Im sure someone is familiar with it. That cams probably not all that much bigger then stock.

Re: Which cam?

Yeah that does sound really small. The hotcam I got is 218/228 and even that is a cam that many people say is too small. I am very happy with it and got some really nice results (see sig), and it is still a great DD cam. I would really consider something the size of the hotcam or cc305 if you want some "wheel spinning torque" for a DD. Plenty of fun to be had with one of those choices!

A really mean small cam is the XE212/218 comp cam. You can't hear it but you'll feel it! How's 11.81 in a 3920 lb. ImpalaSS sound? It was a 383 with stock valve sizes and home hand ported cast iron LT1's. It has wicked duration at .200 ( high ramps) and is torquey as heck.

Re: Which cam?

Before I would spend money on that cam, I would look into getting some custom cam. They can be had for around $300-$350 dollars, and its going to be the best cam for your set up. Plus you can talk to a professional engine builder, not a Lingenfelter Sales Rep. That cam is pretty small in duration.

Whats the lift? LSA?

And your headers will definatly hurt performance once it is cammed. Edelbrock Shorties are not the best of designs. If you are going to cam it, change them out to Mac Mids, or some type of LT. FWIW, I live in Pittsburgh and the roads here are all ****ty, tons of hills, potholes, etc, and I have NEVER scrapped my long tubes on anything ... And if you seen how steep my drivway is, the angle that it meets the road at ... Its just scary ... Never ever scrape.

Hey Chris that is pretty impressive but I guarantee ya its not the cam giving you them times. I mean of course a cam helps but you probably have one mean suspension. What are your 60 ft times? I think the real question would be how much horsepower are you putting to the wheels. Also your running a 383 not a 350 so Im sure that makes a hell of a difference to.

Re: Which cam?

Chris is talking about another man's car, same guy did a set or irons for a friend who went 12.49 FIRST night out with a similarly sized cam but on a stock bottomend.

There is a great current thread on "small" cam on LS1 tech I suggest those of you truely interested go there. There are a handful of us with actual experiance discussing it over there not the "that's too small" crap you are getting here from people who never tried it.

Re: Which cam?

Well how many cams can you actually try yourself lol You kinda gotta base things on what you read, which true, can be misleading. But many would agree thats a small cam and he might be dissapointed with it. There seems to be a lot of other cams that can give him more performance with the same driveability. Im about to run one of Joe O's "small but nasty" cams. I have yet to start the car but im excited to see how she runs. Its a 22x, 23x on a 110lsa.

Re: Which cam?

Not saying you need to try a number of cams yourself just saying that there are a number of people who have actually tried cams under 215 on the intake who have had great results. Just because the HOT cam leaves people wanting more doesn't mean that all cams smaller than it will. The LPE cam discussed here and the Crane 210/224(often called the 227 because the PN ends in that) put down NICE times without any of the "cammed" manners people expect of a cam capable of good power.

That is pretty impressive. I am pretty set on the 465 (212/218) - suberb lowend and midrange is exactly what I need. Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else using this cam or know anything about it like gas mileage..lol.

I know some small cams say they improve economy so I figure this one can't hurt too much. would like feedback though. Gas prices are what kept me from doing a cam sooner but I can't wait anymore just trying to get a feel so I know if I will have to get a second job or not lol.

Re: Which cam?

I ran that cam for many years in my LPE 383 (211/219) Its ground on a 112 and the lift is .533int/.560 exhaust with 1.6s. I loved that cam and went high 11s for a long time. Passed MDs strict emissions, and got 24 mpg on the highway. Its got great low/midrange, and still managed 115ish mph with 3.42s in the 1/4...For a small, off the shelf cam, I think its a great choice...It idles nice and has a little bit of lope to it, not much...Surprised a lot of people with that cam...

--Alan

I've always been a fan of smaller cams for their street manners, etc. Last year we put in a small Joe Overton grind (226/234). Times in my sig are thru shorties and stock WP...

Re: Which cam?

Another cam to look at is the crane 227, its 210/224, .511/.553 112 lsa, you really can't hear it and it has a more lowend torque than the stock cam. I went 12.495@115.1 just bogging it off the line with that cam, full weight and everything.
