calling all, ARE/Agostino heads owners..HP/flow #'s???

Hi, I am interested in seeing what people are running, and what numbers they are putting down with the ARE/Agostino heads, Perferably Stage II info.

Make sure you list the Stage head that you have from ARE.

If you have flow numbers, from your heads, shoot them over.

I have there heads and cam/intake package and am wondering what to expect.

Also shoot the cam specs this way also to get a good idea what its taking.

thanks for all the info.

If you have the heads then get them flow tested. What someone elses heads flow doesn't mater it's what yours flow that makes a diference. I always have my heads flowed by an independent person as many like to inflate there numbers.

What ever you do......... don't use Nick Agostino for anything!!!

I paid over $4k for a set of AFR 227's that came with flow sheets saying 317/218 flow. When tested by B&B they flowed 285/190!!!!

Nick is a crook and the list of people whom has been screwed by ARE is a mile long. The word I hear is ARE is going bankrupt and is starting a new business. Whatever the name……. the tiger still has the same stripes. Stay away like they have the plague as they do.

sounds like a lot of people got screwed or dislike Agostino. If you already bought the package, then do not cringe. You may have a great set of heads or maybe not, who knows.
I have 2 set of ARE heads and they were done years ago, maybe before ARE troubles.
My favorite set is the Fbody LT1's with 2.00 intake valves and forget the exhaust valves and fully ported. They are on a stock bottom LT1 350 and in a heavy Impala SS. With a Crane 104227 cam, they pulled the car to an 12.3x @ 110mph and the horsepower was around 360 rwhp.
With a Crane 109831 cam, (GM-846) and the same heads the car went 11.98 @ 115mph and with who knows what horsepower.
They are awesome heads, (the ones that I have).
The 2nd quickest late Impala SS stock bottom LT1-350 is Andy Nick and he's got the same version of heads from ARE and he's running 12.1 @ 111mph natural in the heavy car and he's chassis dynoed high 380 somthin rwhp.

My other set are steel Impala with big valves and full porting and I overheated them from rattling my engine and blowing a head gasket and too much heat. (So I cracked them). But I had them flowed independently by Terry Samakow of Samakow Racing Engines, (highly respected engine builder in this neck of the woods). The flow was 265 at .550" lift or around there and yes LESS than my flow sheet from ARE but I did not expect the flow to be the same due to INDEPENDENT test and no exhaust pipe yadda. [EDIT: oops-mistake-sorry bad memory..the independent test showed 252 @ .550 vs the 265 ARE showed] But unsolicited from Terry Samakow, these words came out of his mouff, ("These are very good heads and excellent flow numbers for GM castings") Terry could not port my GM LT4's to flow as well and the GM LT4's by Terry on my 383 LT1 are AWESOME.

So in summary: You might still have a good set of heads. The heads I have from ARE are quite good so maybe yours will be too.

When you buy something from a reputable vendor it shouldn’t be a lottery or a crap shoot to get what you pay for.

Just do a search for ARE or Agostino and you will spend all day reading horror stories. Just because one person got something decent for a change has nothing to do with the hundreds Nick deceived, cheated, stole or lied to.

Don’t believe me……… Do the search.

Denny,
If he already has the heads, what is he going to do throw them away because ARE screwd thousands of people?
If he doesn't have the heads yet then the search links are good reading.

Re: calling all, ARE/Agostino heads owners..HP/flow #'s???

i got their stage 2 heads...
i asked probably 4 times for flow numbers and they never gave them to me.

i had them flowed by a local shop and the intake was right around 250 and exhaust was in the 170 range.

i sent them back to are and they came back still without a flow sheet, so i took them back to the same shop and they and i think they got another 5 cfm out of them.

i cant seem to find the exact numbers.

but i would say it still runs pretty good, with the 306 cam i got a 11.8 out of it at 115. dynoed 389 and 357
i went to an furtual motor sports cam(less duration then the 306 but more lift) and got an 11.7 @117.50 dynoed 396 and 365
thats with my car missing on the top end.

I hear what you’re saying, but more than likely he’ll have to do what I had to do. Send them to someone like Lloyd Elloit, and have him port them into something decent if he has them already.

A long story, but Nick screwed me on two sets. Not just one. I sent the first set back for credit after I found out they were down 32 cfm from the flow sheets he included. Only spent about three days constant on the dyno trying to figure out what they weren’t making power. Hey……. Great flow sheets! Trying make a bad deal better, ended up swapping a set of $4K 227 afr’s for a complete engine.

I got a complete engine all right. One filled with used parts, build sheets that didn’t match and heads that didn’t match the flow sheets. If I had had half a brain in hindsight I should have cancelled the purchase through my credit card company. I’d be thousands of dollars richer

Heads reported…… engine rebuilt with new parts and now the car runs great. That was easy and only cost a few thousand to make it right and get what I originally paid for! Hell….. I send people his way all the time. Such a deal!

No... don't throw them away, but I would sure as heck have them checked out by a third party. If they hadn't been received and if I had used a credit card and not gotten them yet.... I'd cancel that sucker in a heartbeat.

The guy should be in jail for the stuff he’s pulled. Absolutely no morals or ethics at all.

Well thank you very much Karl. I'm just trying to save anyone the grief myself and others went through. That's all.

I have a personal friend who was burned by ARE.... you might have seen his thread on fbody.com (he owns that site).
