does anyone know how the maechanism actually locks out 2nd and third? when it kicks in, how does it keep the shifter from going into those two gears?

the reason i'm asking is because i can't get my tranny to go into third. it doesn't and never has, grind going into to gear or pop out or anything.....i just get in the car one day and third is blocked off....all the other gears shift smooth as a baby's butt, just like third used too!!

any ideas? btw , it will not shift with the car running or off. i've tried it with switch on or off, it still doesn't shift.

CAGS only locks you out of 2nd gear... not 2nd and 3rd so your problem is something mechanical.

 

I thought that it locked you out of both second and third...?

 

there's a solenoid, but don't ask me where.
