C5 Rims on my 97 LT1 Z28, questions???
I just scored a free pair of Gloss black C5 rims "thanks Brian" early 97 style 5 spokes.
They came of another f-body that had suspension work & was pretty low, so the front tires are 245 40 17's & they should be 245 45 17's.
The off tire size makes the fronts look a little starnge on my car, but new meats will fix that & over all it looks pretty cool.
I have a few questions about getting the right stance.
The C5's rims have a little bit of a different offset then stock f-bodys wheels.
So they tend to sink in the wheel well a little more.
I was told spacers will bring them out to where they should be up front.
But what size spacers do i need & wher do i buy them?
The other thing we plan on doing is a set of springs to lower the car just a little to further enhance it's stance.
with 18's out back & 17's up front, what springs should i look at, i dont wanna go real low, just eat up some wheel well gap??
The last thing we plan on doing once the new rubber gets in, is to sand & polish the outside lip on the rim.
We looking at giving them that Grand sport look, with the small polished outer ring & full black centers.
I think once we get it all sorted out the end results weill look pretty bad azz.
People allready like it with the of size tires & incorrect stance.

According to the data table that I have from VETTE magazine, the stock C5 97-99 front wheels were 17x8.5", with a 56mm offset. If you do the math, that gives you roughly:
Backspace = 6.90", "frontspace" = 2.50"
Compare that to:
Stock 16x8:
BS = 6.62", FS = 2.28"
Stock WS6/SS 17x9:
BS = 7.12", FS = 2.78"
ZR1 replica 17x9.5:
BS = 7.41", FS = 3.28"
So... the C5's ar sticking out slightly more than the stock 16x8's, and not quite as far as the stock WS6 wheels. And they are nowhere near as aggressive looking as something like the ZR1 wheels.
How large a spacer you use will depend on how far you want to move the wheels toward the outside of the fender line. Technically, you are fine with no spacer. I personally would not go more that a 1/4" spacer on the stock studs. The wider you make the spacer, the longer studs you need. But spacers aren't really a good idea, unless you get into the higher quality "billet" type spacers that bolt to your hub, and then have a second set of studs for your wheels. These are typically in the $150/pair range. I can give you a link if that is what you are interested in.

I had those wheels on my car for a short while and the fronts fit fine. The rears are much farther in than stock wheels, I had to bang and pound in like 5 places AND cut my jounce spacers and brackets in half.
Had 245/45/17 in front and 275/40/18 in the rear. Front tire was 25.6" tall(your 245/40/17 is shorter) and rear was 26.6" tall. Combined with the Jamex springs I have, it gave my car one helluvan' ugly rake to it. Was gonna get shorter tires for the rear to make up for it but how is it gonna look with a fat sidewall on the front and a real low-pro sidewall on the rear?
If you get the size spacer you need for the rear, the lugnuts will only grab like 2-3 threads on the studs because they will be to short. You will need longer studs as well.
