A/C Issues, Low coolant light? Help!

Well I had a bit of a mess-up about a week ago. Replaced the thermo with the correct one for the LT1 and not the SBC, but forgot to screw the radiator cap all the way back on (was off to vent pressure) anyway, I drove with it off, and needless to say, lost ~1.5 gallons of coolant. All. Over. My. Engine. Bay.

ANYWAY, the opti/electrical system was fine, and I refilled it through the radiator cap to the top with bottled water (purified). It's still green, so theres some coolant still mixed in, which should be fine, it doesnt get that cold here in GA. Anyway, I've bled through the bleed screws the air out of the system and have put in a little more water at a time to the radiator. Runs cool (Between 160 and next mark on water guage) when driving, a little hotter at idle, but when I'm idling, or cruising at a certain speed for a long period of time, the low coolant light is coming on. WHY? It's annoying, and my car (seems to be) full of coolant. What can I do/what do I need to do.

Second Question:

Today my A/C decided to stop blowing cold air. I dont know how old any of the A/C system is, or if it needs R134(freon), or anything. Should I just get it recharged with freon and see? If that's not it, then I guess it needs a new a/c compressor? (Wiring is/seems to be all fine, heat works fine) Please help, thanks

I love this car

First problem, does the low coolant light go out when you top off the radiator?

Secondly, get down to any auto parts store(hell, even Walmart!) and get a pressure test kit. This will tell you if you need more R134. You shouldn't add it unless you really do need it. The compressor will not kick on if you are out of refrigerant. And if you're out of refrigerant, you probably have a leak in the system.

Topped off the radiator again, and this time the coolant light hasnt come back on. Should be enough in there now. But anyone have any ideas on the A/C?

have the guages put on it and see what the pressures are. disconnect the battery for 10 mins to reset the comp and see if it comes on if it has low pressure the comp will shut it down again or if it is building to much psi

a/c answer

ok check this one out,,,,if your a/c decided it wanted to stop blowing cold that means that you have a leak somewhere in your system, bring your car to a reputable a/c place have them put the tracer dye in it and have them find the leak. your a/c should never have to be recharged unless you took something apart or you got a hole///think of it as your refrigerator whens the last time you recharged that///

it could also be running to much psi becuase of bad parts such as expansion valve or some other fault in the system which would make the comp shut down the a/c syatem to avoid further damage.....and seals go bad so yes it can leak out
