A/C Delete Pulley?
A/C Delete Pulley?
Would I see a performance gain with this? I know that the a/c kicks off at WOT, but I figured it would take less work to turn a "dead" pulley as opposed to the actual a/c, or would this be just like the underdrive pulleys (ie, not much gain). I figure this is mainly a weight saving thing.
I have it because my ac comp went and didnt have the money for a new one. If you have working ac leave it be. When your comp is off its the same thing as that 1LE. I would never ever take out a working ac system on a street car. I hate not having ac, it just sucks so bad. This week I should have my new comp in.
When the A/C isn't "on", only the outer rim of the compressor clutch is rotating.... not as light as the 1LE delete pulley, but not heavy enough to worry about on a street driven car. The main gain in removing the A/C is 45-55# weight reduction, depending which components you actually remove.
Yea, weight is there and its weight comming off the front of the car but still, on a street car, I just dont see the point. True the 1LE is a way lighter pulley, I remember playing with when i got it. Cool little peace. Still though, only way now I would ever put one in is if that comp locked up. Thats why I wont sell mine even after the ac goes in. I can tell you from experience it just isnt worth doing. I havent really had working AC for about 2 years now, I cant see why any one would take it out on a car that didnt run 9s.
Thats because you live in California, Texas gets up to a 100 then Heat Index makes it like 108. Now, think, do you want to sit in rush hour traffic for 45 minutes a day each way in that kind of heat. But still, I pray for days when it only gets to mid 80s. Some times you gotta use it, like when you work some were nice or you gt to go some were and you dont want a soaking wet back.
