A/C Compressor Leak

Ok, just got the A/C compressor out of the car. The way it sounded/looked when the leak happened, it seemed to be coming from the front of the compressor around the pulley/clutch area. Is this a possible place for a leak? I've checked the lines, and can't find any breaks. When the leak happened, my A/C pressure pissed out in about 20 seconds. I did an exploratory system refill, and the clutch reengaged, and I could immediately hear the leak again. I'm just trying to make sure that this is a possible leak spot before I go and slap the other compressor on there. Thanks!

When the compressor seals go bad, the front of the compressor wheel is the common location to see the leak. There should be an oily residue where the leak is, thats the oil component in the freon which keeps the system oiled.

Good to hear. I could see that oily residue that you mentioned. Cool, thanks for the good info.

Already have one. Bought it off of a guy on here for $40. He said it works, but I haven't installed it yet. The little lip on the back where the lines connect has a small section broken off, and I don't know if that's going to affect it or not. If it doesn't work, at least it's wintertime.

problem with that is you might get moisture through the cracks causing o-ring failure and ruining your ac drier also... fyi

Well, I was thinking of putting a bead of RTV around the cracked area. Hopefully that would do the area. I just don't want to put too much in and let some leak into the system.

I actually put a little thought towards going A/C delete, especially after seeing that post about the alternator relocation bracket that lets you keep the power steering. However, the car just isn't a full track car yet. I do enjoy driving it in the summertime, and LOVE my A/C in the summertime too!
