Question A/C Compressor, GET OUT!

Is anyone familiar with the procedures on removing the A/C compressor? I donno, should I go from the bottom? It looks like that's the way, but....the steering rack in in the way and the a-arm.

How in the workd do I do it?
What do I need to remove?
I have already vacumed the freon.

thanx

I just pull out those two bolts that hold the bracket from the block to the AC compressor. You can get em from the bottom.I think they're easier than the one that holds the bracket to the block.

I replaced my compressor last year, once the a/c compressor and hose assy is unbolted, I found it a lot easier to remove compressor after dropping the front sway bar down for more room.

I didn't drop the swaybar I just loosened the pass. side bracket and end link. Compressor came right out (after wrestling with a couple bolts with the breaker bar. I had my friend in the engine bay pulling up on the aluminum tube to give me some clearance and then I went at the bolt on the back of the compressor. All the others were easy to get out and the compressor will drop out with minimal force.

It is really easy when you have everything in front of it out too.

4 bolts on the front I think and 3 in the back. 2 of the back bolts hold it in and the other connects the lines. You will need to disconnect the lines first before it comes out though. then wiggle the lines to manuever them around the stuff in there.

Hey man, glad to hear you got the compressor I sent ok. Sorry I missed your messages but I was away for a few days. The only way to get to it is from underneath the car, I just pulled it up on ramps to get enough room to work on it. Here is a basic procedure for removing the compressor:

1. Discharge pressure in the a/c system, I did it at the schraeder valve on the passenger side first with a small screwdriver and a large towel wrapped around it to protect my hands & paint from the freon. (Not as much came out as I was expecting)
2. Disconnect a/c line down at the bottom of the coil, let drain
into pan.
3. Remove belt.
4. Remove four bolts holding compressor onto the engine, three in the front and one hard one to reach in the back.
5. Remove the one bolt holding the a/c lines to back of compressor, it's pretty hard to reach.
6. Disconect wires going to top of compressor (you can see them from the top of motor) then remove compressor. It takes a little wrestling with it to get it around the lines and all.

That's pretty much all I did for the removal, good luck
