a/c compressor bypass question

My dad is working on a '95 T/A at his business and the A/C is locking up. He wants to know if there is any way to put a smaller belt on there to bypass the a/c compressor, but leave it bolted to the engine. Is this possible or do you actually have to take the compressor off?

Thanks,

Kyle

If you just leave the A/C turned off, there is not very much power robbing load on the belt, so what are you trying to accompish by bypassing the clutch pulley? The big gain in deleting the A/C is in removing everything and getting 50# off the front end of the car.

Or did I miss the point of your question?????

I think he means the clutch itself is locking up and does not want to jettison the compressor.
I don,t know of any way to do that though, just the AC delete pulley and that requires eliminating the AC.
You will have to excuse Injuneer, some of us are in modification mode 24/7

OK.... I missed the point of his question.... .
oooooppppsss.... I thought everybody was concerned about loosing 50#.

In that case, simply look at the diagram of the belt routing on the radiator cover, and it will show you that it cant be done. Without the A/C, the belt would be rubbing on itself against the PS pulley.
