i cut a 2.0 60' w/ 245 16 SZ50s w/ like 7,000 miles on em

the SZ50 just looks like it has so much more rubber on the ground than the DS-3

Well I went with the goodyears becuase people that HAVE them were giving them excellent ratings. All the f-bosy's or vettes that reviewed on tirerack all gave a 9 or higher outta 10!

The Firehawk's Sz50's, not the EP, which is the new ones, were amazing tires, hooked as good as drag radials,, looked amazing, and were even better in the rain. Would not hesitate to purchase them again, maybe will get 315/35/17 now. ? hehe

the tread pattern looks amazing on them too

but maybe they are just wannabe performance drivers who never exceed even 80% of their cars capability

i had GS-Cs not bad, not great

then SZ50s damn good dry and wet (220 not EP)

then RE730 ok, good wet, less than SZ50s in dry, longer treadlife

now: going back to SZ50 and try the EP compound

You all are mistaking the two tires. THE GS-C's are the low model. The GS-D3's are the top of the line model that goodyear makes and have excellent rating ont tirerack.com

Actually those Firestones have one of the smallest tread widths out there. They are about 1" skinner in tread width compared to the GSCs of the same size for instance. The size of a tire is measured from sidewall to sidewall, but the actual amount of tread width can vary from one brand to the next. That's why the Firestones look so skinny, their 275-40-17 tires look like 245s to me from behind. It's one of the big reasons I've never used these tires.

I replaced my TA'S with Firehawks and I see no difference in width. Maybe it's an optical illusion because of tread design.

Thumbs up

Thumbs up to tirerack.com for their customer service, they got back to me on my email, and called me first thing the next day to make sure all was kosher.

Anyone else think that the firehawk tire looks narrow? That wasn't what I thought when I saw the 275 on another car. I currently have GSC's too.

I got mine for $150 (255/50/16) at a local tire shop. They were only 6 dollars more than Tirerack and give free balancing and rotations for the life of the tire which you won't get if you buy them from Tirerack and have someone else install them.(unless you're lucky)

Yeah, after a second look I see a curve from the sidewall but they are still excellent tires.

Cool

Gettin my 3rd set here soon.(firehawks ep's).Very predictable tire,as you can regain control quickly if you ever loose control. And they do grib better the more they wear down.Got 20,000 mi on these.Tire rack had em about $135 last time I checked.My02(I do run the back tires at about 30 to 32 lbs. which means pre-mature tire wear.)Hope this helps.

Yea but it also says that the Kuhmo 712's are a 9.1" tread width and they are BY FAR the narrowest looking tire I have ever owned....they look way to skinny...

If i swap to 3.42 gears, would i need to have drag radials to get some good 60' times? Or could i simply go with the Firestone Firehawks and still be fine? What would you guys recomend for some nice traction plus the ability to drive in the rain.
