Buying an LT1... Possible engine problem?

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 94 Z28 from someone that beleives it has an engine problem. It's got low oil pressure (Around 17psi) and it maks a ticking noise after it's fully warmed up, but not while cold. I've heard that the oil pressure is normal for these cars, and isn't a problem. What about the ticking? Any ideas? The current owner knows nothing about cars, and I know L67's like the back of my hand, but don't know a thing about LS1's!

Also, what would be a fair price for this car? 94 Z28 Hard top, pretty crappy looking Green Gray Metallic paint, Cloth interior, 4 BALD tires, 110k miles.

Thanks
-Rob

First off, it's got a LT1... not an LS1. The ticking is probably the lifters... may hear rockers too. Oil pump may be going out. Oil pressure on a GM small block only has to be like 8-12psi, I think... somebody else could probably answer that one better.

Make the guy think it's some kind of major problem and get it for cheap. You're gonna want to build a beast out of this thing anyway, right... F' it... buy it with the screwed up motor and build the snot out of it.

rockers would make the ticking sound even when cold... Could be the lifters when its cold because the oil pressue is low.. So it takes the car longer to get oil up past the lifters and lube the rest of the assembly. On start up the car should at least see 60psi of oil pressure. Mine use to see close to 70 at start up.. with the high pressure spring i put in it sees 75psi at start up... 17 at idle after its warmed up is still alittle on the low side.

$2000: Oh yeah... I'd jump on it. Especially if you're looking for a project car.
