blue smoke at WOT only

every since i done heads/cam my car smokes a little on a WOT blast, its not alot, just a small amount like a small haze that quickly dissapates. its blueish in color. there is no smoke anyother time, just a quick puff after a cold start sometimes....
is this something to be concerned about?

TIA

Usually when you floor it and see a puff of smoke, that indicates a problem with valve seals.

i thought that my rings might be getting a bit worn....

Re: blue smoke at WOT only

Sounds like a bit of oil, but I wouldn't worry about it. My engine has about 10,000 miles since the rebuild and it puffs some smoke when I stand on it. Mostly black smoke though, with a little blue. And just like you, I never see it smoke any other time. I have to add about 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles, but I run the hell out of it too. Are you using oil, and if so how much? How many miles? I wouldn't be concerned about it though. Some people get their panties in a bunch if they lose 1/4 quart every oil change. Who cares, oil is cheap. I know my piston to cylinder wall clearances are a little loose because of the forged pistons, and I know my car is modded and I drive it like I stole it. I EXPECT it to have increased oil consumption and wear and tear on it. Hell, Ford claims that 1 quart every 600 miles on some of the new trucks is normal, so I guess a couple quarts every oil change isn't so bad. Since your heads are pretty much new, I would venture to guess that your rings may not be sealing as well as they used to. The only option there is a teardown and rebuild, but your engine will probably run a long time like it is.

Re: blue smoke at WOT only

I'm in the same boat as you. I get some blue smoke when I stand on it. My dipstick also pops out a few inches. I'm running 11.8:1 compression.

Doing this the car ran 12.11@116mph and put out 390rwhp with a dying opti.

So I'm not too worried yet but a re-ring is in my future. Possibly when I do dished pistons and a turbo.

I had similar trouble and it turned out to be a small crack on the dip stick tube where the attachment bracket was tack welded to the tube near the bottom. I guess smoke only showed when increased pressure caused enough oil to leak on exhaust. It took oil additive and black light to find source of leak.

Re: blue smoke at WOT only

Well blowing blue smoke at intitial startup is generally a clue that the valve seal is bad. This is what my car does. Or if I get on the gas, then let off of it, you will see the smoke. But it dosnt do it,as I'm at WOT.

If you are blowing the blue smoke at WOT, through the RPMS, that is a sign of blowbye. Which mean that one or more of the piston rings are wore. Now if I were you I would do a compression or leakdown test to see if this is a valve seal or worn ring situation.
